alonso>>>>barry  who ever didn't think at the time

we have

CM: gerrad/alonso/masch/lucas/plessis/aurelio
LM: riera/babel/aurelio/leto/el zhar

don't see how he fits unless he is happy to be 5th/4th choices

4th/5th :s I'm not saying I'd want him, but I'd have him at least before Lucas at CM and at least before Aurelio at LM. I think I'd maybe put him before Babel there too. Plus El Zhar is a right sided winger.

he is before lucas

gerrad/alonso/masch fourth choice

but i just took things in keane's situation where he struggled. he isn't guranteed performances for us so took a nothch less 5/4th choice

Fair enough, brain didn't engage. Thought you were saying he'd be behind all those you listed.

I can't help feeling Barry will arrive and Alonso will leave at some point.  :(
I expect us to go for a quick right-sided player, so it might be a RB or a RW.

I think he would be a good signing, but only if Xabi is sold  :(

If Villa are in the CL next season he may not want to come anyway and Villa would want stupid money even though he would be in the last
year of his contract.

With some of the big European clubs looking to make some big signings this summer, hopefully we might be able to pick up some good players who become surplus to
requirements eg if Real Madrid sign Kaka, someone like Wesley Sneijder might become available *wishful thinking*

Pacy right winger / attacking midfielder is definitely the priority.

If everyone's a little queer, can't she be a little straight?

You're not seriously suggesting you want Barry?

Massive step in the wrong direction. For me we need one winger and a torresclone

I think in the 4-2-3-1, against defensive teams especially, one of the 2 holding players has to be more of a box-to box player, with the capacity to get beyond the ball and into the box when their team is attacking. Other than Gerrard, the only central midfielder who could really do that consistently would be Lucas, but as we have seen he is still pretty raw.

Xabi hasn't got the pace to play that way and Masch is better at the defensive side of the game really.

Barry is an example of player who could fill that role, but I more think we need to sign someone with those qualities I mentioned, it doesn't have to be Barry.

I agree our top priorities should be a winger and experienced target man type player.

Mascha is a box to box player when he's unleashed. It's just not very often.

Masch's surging runs are brilliant

I think I'm thinking of those situations where the opposing team has parked the bus and we are playing cross after the cross into their box, it would nice if one of the holding midfielders was able to become the extra man in the box and get on the end of them.

I honestly get the feeling that Xabi wants to go back to the continent, and sooner rather than later.
He's a model pro though, so keeps quiet.

I can see us signing Barry to replace him, and i can see Barry being better than we've seen him so far.

I'm not saying I like it, I just think it might happen.

Yeah I know but I think he could handle it if he was "allowed".

Masch makes some great runs... normally near the end of matches...

I'd sooner see attacking full-backs, rather than a box-to-box midfielder. The difficulty with signing a forward as well is that it would need to be someone who's happy not playing very often because the '1' is Torres 90% of the time.

O'Neil said he would be allowed to leave if he wanted to in the summer.

I agree BS.
Too much water under the bridge for me.
I think Alonso is hurt that the club wanted to sell him. He is a class act, as we all know, so he is unlikely to  say anything derogatory about the situation. He would have done so by now, anyway.
Xabi Alonso  :adore:

Re: Barry, I think he is really pissed off about Villa making his move difficult. True, they will probably make CL next year. But he hasn't signed a new contract, so by the summer he will be a cut-price saleable asset or 6 months from a pre-contract agreement with another club. The outcome will depend on how much he wants to stay.

Imagine a Masch run paired with a Skrtel maraud up the pitch...devastating.
