Big interview with Glen Johnson in today's Guardian http://www.guardian....view-portsmouth
He comes across OK. I wonder though if Rafa is looking at him as a replacement/competition for Arbeloa or Kyut? You know how he likes to double up on the wings occasionally like he's done a few times with Dossena and Aurelio on the left.
The Guardian also reports that Lennon has signed a contract extension.

I still think of toilet seats and B&Q whenever I hear his name but I do reckon hes a player that could develop under rafa
Facking ell, facking ell - no one is giving me the credit I deserve for the European efforts

paper talk today i have seen so far.
Liverpool to sign Barry for £20mil, thats right we are going to pay more than we were willing to last summer for a player with only a year left on his contract :s
Also Benitez has a £100mil transfer kitty :uhoh:

20 million after the season Xabi’s had? Bugger off.
TBH TBF I reckon the Mancs would do well to have a look at him. Giggs and Scholes can’t keep it up, Anderson and Nani haven’t stepped up, Hargreaves is permanently Deggened and that only leaves them with Carrick and Fletcher in CM.

Whoever is in charge of United over the next few years could have a sizeable job on their hands - when you think Neville, Van Der Sar, Giggs and Scholes have all got 1 more season tops, and the fact that recent signings don't really look like filling the void - Nani is crap, Anderson is meh, Hargreaves is perma-injured, there's question marks over Foster and Kuszack and Rafael is still a baby. Their signings over the next few transfer windows will be important ones.
Chelsea are in a similarly precarious position and with likely much lower funds with which to carry out their turnaround.

I honestly think Anderson is shite. I almost pissed myself when I read the 100mil kitty comment. Genius.

I would take Barry but not as our main transfer target, he shouldnt be taking up any more than 40% of our transfer budget, if he is then the priorties should be elsehwere.

Priorties for me: gotta keep our current crop of players and get a right sided winger.
Barry can gtfo. We really dont need him. Alonso MUST be retained.

We need to keep Xabi and by doing that Barry seems like a bit of a pointless signing. I can't see why he'd be happy to join us and potentially play out of his preferred position. We all know he does want to join us but it seems irrational if we already have Xabi. I'd play him on the left over Albert though.

The way he's improved in his last few appearances id play Babel ahead of them both.

Forget Gerrard... He's not part of our CM anymore. He's 'in the hole', 'off the striker' and all that malarkey.
We play two in CM... At the moment the first choice 2 is Alonso and Masch, but add Barry to that and you would have cover for injuries/suspensions, you could play Masch for more defensive line-ups and Barry for more attacking ones. You would also have cover for Gerrard (and a plan B)... All this without even mentioning his ability to play on the left.
Barry in addition to Alonso would be a fucking great signing.

what about Lucas? :orly:
Lucas is looking better, but not setting the world alight.
I don't right now want an option for 2yrs time, I want an option that improves us NOW.
I know this argument backfired with Keane, but Barry would fit our system better than Keane was ever likely to.

We will lose one of alonso or masch if barry comes. Barry is past his best now anyway. Our CM is perfectly balanced imo - and longer term I still see Plessis as being one for the future.

maybe that's why United are still stronger than us.
They can bring in strong challengers for places without their first teamers wanting to leave.
I see no reason why Barry for less than £10M would signal the exit of Masch or Alonso.
And Plessis has gone backwards.
